Ronda Rousey Further Clouds The Mystery Of Her Debut

Yesterday I wrote an article predicting who the 12 surprise entrants in the women’s Royal Rumble match will be. Notably, I excluded Ronda Rousey, both because I don’t expect her to be there and, quite frankly, I don’t really want her there (sorry, not sorry).

Well, there’s been a new development in Rousey’s rumored participation. Take this as you will, but she recently told TMZ Sports that it will be physically impossible for her to participate as she’ll be in Colombia filming the Mark Wahlberg film Mile 22.

“I’m actually leaving to Colombia right now to finish shooting Mile 22 and won’t be back until mid-February,” she said. Furthermore, she revealed that there’s currently no official contract in place between her and WWE, despite that late-night dinner meeting she and her agent recently had with Triple H. Watch the clip below.

However, just because Rousey says she won’t be at the Royal Rumble doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the case — after all, WWE is phenomenal at keeping big surprises under wraps (pun absolutely intended).

But seriously, I’m not kidding when I say I don’t want Rousey to make her WWE debut at the Royal Rumble. In my opinion, putting her in the Royal Rumble match would completely rob the spotlight from the women who have actually put in the work to get WWE’s women’s division to this point. Furthermore, her debut would shift the significance of the match from “look how far women’s wrestling has come” to “OH MY GOD RONDA ROUSEY!” And I’m not okay with that.

So please, Ronda – just stay in Colombia; you can debut some other time.
