Alexa Bliss Make History In United Arab Emirates

Women’s wrestling has undergone a complete revolution over the course of the last two years, and Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks are looking to close out 2017 by making history yet again.

On Dec. 7 at WWE Live in Abu Dhabi, Alexa Bliss defended her Raw Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks in what was the first-ever women’s wrestling match to take place in the United Arab Emirates.

Bliss and Banks both filmed short promos hyping the historic match.

This is truly incredible. It can’t be overstated how much women’s wrestling has grown within WWE ever since #GiveDivasAChance trended worldwide. Last year, Banks and Charlotte Flair competed in the first women’s Hell in a Cell Match that was also the first women’s match to main event a pay-per-view. This year saw the introduction of the first women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, and rumor has it that 2018 will see the first women’s Royal Rumble and/or Elimination Chamber match. Now just give the women tag titles and they’ll truly be the equals of their male counterparts.

Here is the culturally appropriate gear both women will wear:

And if all that isn’t enough history-making for you, Gulf News also reports that Raw Tag Team Champions Sheamus and Cesaro will defend their titles against Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose in the first-ever Steel Cage Match in Abu Dhabi. Clearly, WWE isn’t taking their international market for granted.

Congratulations to Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks for continuing to make history and break barriers for women wrestlers everywhere.
