Shawn Micheals Will Referee A NXT Title Match In San Antonio

Shawn Michaels has repeatedly said that he’s retired from in-ring competition. But that doesn’t mean he is out of wrestling. Recently, the Heart Break Kid moved his family to Florida so he could teach at the WWE Performance Center. According to reports, Michaels teaches a “finishing class” that gives people about to move up to the main roster a final polish.

That puts him close to the best and brightest in NXT. Well, this has inspired Mr. Wrestlemania to get back in the ring for one more match.

As for why Michaels is officiating the match, there appear to be two reasons. First, HBK is from San Antonio, where the show will take place. Second, Ring of Honor is running in San Antonio the same night. WWE clearly wants to do what it can to out-draw the competition. This is a great thing. WWE is forced to get creative and present new and exciting matches.

HBK’s Referee History

Michaels has quite a lot of experience when it comes to being a guest referee. When he first retired in 1998, he was a referee for several matches in WWE and in Japan.

Following his 2nd and final retirement, Michaels had two notable matches in the black and white stripes.

First, he was the referee for the “End of an Era” match between Triple H and Undertaker inside Hell In A Cell at Wrestlemania. His interference caused one of the most dramatic moments in Maina history.

A few years later, Michaels was again guest refereeing a Hell In A Cell match. This time against Randy Orton and Michaels’ former trainee, Daniel Bryan. HBK Sweet Chin Music’d Bryan to cost him the match, leading to this moment.

While the match won’t be broadcast, there is sure to be a ton of footage and photos taken. And judging from his past experience, it wouldn’t surprise me to see HBK get in on the action with a few Sweet kicks!
