WWE continues to make history when it comes to women in wrestling. The 2nd Mae Young Classic is underway, and we’re two months away from the first ever all Women’s PPV, EVOLUTION. Adding to that though, WWE has begun to put women behind the commentary desk. We reported yesterday that Renee Young and Beth Phoenix would join Michael Cole at commentary for the Mae Young Classic. Phoenix previously worked with Cole on the Mixed Match Challenge. And now Renee Young is getting a huge chance! On the August 13th episode of RAW, Young will join Michael Cole and Corey Graves as the guest commentator for the entirety of the show!

Renee reacted to the news in an article on

“When Michael told me, I was like, ‘This Monday?! What are you talking about?!’,” Young said. “I am so excited for this opportunity. To be sitting with Cole, who has been such a great champion of mine since I’ve been working for WWE, it’s going to be really cool.”

This is great news! Renee Young has been a highlight on screen for WWE ever since she arrived. She has a polish and quirkiness mix that a lot of the backstage interviewers lack. Besides that, she’s done a great job hosting PPV pre-shows and was one of the reasons the late, great Talking Smack was an entertaining show. Hopefully, this is just the beginning. I want to see Renee hosting more. This moment won’t be her first time behind the desk either. A few years back, she briefly commentated on Main Event and NXT but felt she wasn’t quite ready since her wrestling knowledge was limited. With years of growth and experience, I expect Renee to hit it out of the park!

We’ll see Renee and a lot of other women on commentary and in other traditionally male roles in WWE soon.
