Hulk Hogan has not been seen in the WWE for a while, since he was sacked after the release of some less-than-flattering statements. The statements made by Hogan were considered racist by many, after which the WWE took action and no longer wanted to be associated with the Hulkster.
However, the separation does not seem to be permanent, because Hulk Hogan is rumoured to return to the WWE.
Why Was Hulk Hogan Fired by the WWE?
If you are not familiar with the reason why Hulk Hogan was fired by the WWE, here is the story.
Hulk Hogan has been known to make less than agreeable statements. Still, when it was revealed there were recordings of Hulkster making some racist comments, the WWE fired him shortly after. Hulk Hogan would later apologise for the statements he made.
“Eight years ago I used offensive language during a conversation. It was unacceptable for me to have used that offensive language; there is no excuse for it.”
The scandal later continued with Hulk Hogan suing Gawker Media over the release of a sex tape. Hogan would eventually win the lawsuit and was awarded 31 million dollars.
Conversations with Upper Management
Rumours have been circulating that there have been conversations between Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon. Upper management is also having a discussion amongst each other regarding the return of the Hulkster. However, upper management is concerned what a possible return of Hulk Hogan could mean for their brand.
More Signs Hulk Hogan Might Be Returning
When the scandal of Hulk Hogan broke, the WWE wanted to wash their hands of him completely. When Hogan left the company, all promotional material with images of the Hulkster was removed from the WWE Network. Now, Hulk Hogan is being used on the Network again; this could mean Hogan is returning soon.
According to Fightful.com:
WWE has reached out to Hogan expressing their interest in a renewed working relationship since last summer, and Vince McMahon himself has called Hogan with that sentiment. I’m told that Hogan is unsure about a return as he’s in a good place financially following the Gawker settlement
According to the Fightful report, there are also concerns that Hogan is severely out of shape. While it won’t matter that much because he will not be getting in the ring, he still has a reputation to maintain for his physique.
What I Think About Hogan’s Possible Return
Since I’m white myself, I don’t find I have a right to speak out about this issue as much as the black community. I do think Hogan’s comments were quite inappropriate. Despite this, the Hulkster did apologise for his comments.
If I were in WWE management, I would do some research amongst the black community and see how they feel about a possible return of the fallen WWE legend. Only they can determine if they feel comfortable seeing the Hulkster again, or if they want him banned from the WWE permanently.
Based on the latest news obtained from WWE management, it seems like the WWE is still undecided on the return of Hogan. They want to protect their reputation above all else, so a possible return of Hogan could endanger that. Only time will tell if the WWE does make the difficult decision and let Hogan return to the company.
What do you think about a possible return of Hulk Hogan? Would you like to see the Hulkster again? Or do you believe his career is ruined forever?
